Session 4: Anouk Brack & Rik Hoevers
Assignment overview session 4
Continuations of Assignment 1
Keep going with the assignment on daily reflections on intuition and intuitive moments and now also include creativity. Figure out what it feels like, what enhances it, what diminishes it. What happens if you follow it?
For this also read the ppt's of session 1 that can be found on this page: (http://www.intuitieveintelligentie.nl/index.php/Integral)
and the slides of session 3: File:20091117 INTI Session 3 Creativity.ppt.
Assignment 3
Assignments for this session is about the movie The Secret. Click here to go to the secret of the Secret...! assignment page What is your take on this "creating your own reality"?
Assignment 4
Also study the page on Spiral Dynamics theory on development of worldviews This helps understanding the stages aspect of the integral framework. Spiral Dynamics focusses on our worldview and values, it looks at how we think at a certain stage, not what we think.

Sacred Geometry - A path of (ethical and spiritual) self development (the I) and a source of inspiration for architecture and technology (It)
Sacred geometry wisdom path
Have you ever noticed the same patterns arising in different circumstances? The six-sided symetry of snowflakes and of a honeycomb. The vortex-pattern of a whirlpool in the sink, of a sunflower, and of a complete galaxy.
Though for us these geometric patterns are abstract and without meaning, this has historically not always been the case. For the most part of history, geometric patterns and the numbers associated with them where thought of as having an intrinsic meaning. The number 'one' for instance, can express the number of cups on the table (quantitative meaning), but also expresses and illustrates the concept of 'one-ness', 'all encompassing wholeness', 'being complete, resting in yourself', etc. These are qualitative concepts.
In sacred geometry, abstract geometric forms and numbers are thought of as windows to a realm of qualitative properties and forces. The result of these forces are visible in all layers of reality. I already mentioned some geometric shapes in the material universe, but this is also true for other layers. The formative power of the number two, for example, can be seen both as polarity / conflict but as attraction / love as well. These are forces that are active both in the material layer (day/night, summer/winter, etc) and in the psychological layer as well.
In fact, these patterns and numbers can be interpreted as being formative of everything in existence, in all layers. By studying the abstract, geometrical shapes and numbers, things can be learned about other layers of the cosmos as well. Tḧis study is exact and mathematical, but very tangible and intuitive as well. Different from what we today call 'mathematics', because it involves the heart as well as the head. Different from numerology with it's random superstition. This is sacred geometry.
The word 'sacred' originally means 'to make whole', this is what these patterns do. They connect everything in the universe, in the end enabling us to 'align' our own consciousness and being.
These teachings seem to have been around pretty much forever. We can find them in the proportions of structures like Stonehenge and the pyramids. But always they were only accessible to the few who joined the inner circles of the mystery schools, the school of Pythagoras perhaps the most famous. Remember the inscription above Plato's Academy? "Let no one ignorant of geometry enter."
Nowadays, this knowledge becomes more easily available. Since it bridges the gap between our abstract, exact, logical society and a heartfelt connection to the world, each other and ourselves, I think sacred geometry can be important in healing our stance in live. This is why I've taken up collecting and teaching this knowledge.
My name is Rik Hoevers, my personal background is diverse. After high school I was interested in all kinds of technical studies such as physics and mathematics. But after a chance encounter I ended up studying philosophy instead. For six years I learned about the thoughts of others. Also I learned how to structure a discourse and discover hidden premises and such. But after those years my conclusion was that the deeply felt desire to know the working of the universe that I read in the primary texts was not to be found in the academic world.
I switched my focus and I learned how to program high performance database applications for the internet. Then after 10 years of working with computers this was no longer satisfying, what once was exciting now only felt cold. I switched again and became involved in guiding kids who have autism, ADHD and the like. And I started organizing workshops and lectures on sacred geometry. Also from my website I offer various geometrical toys that help you to connect with your head, heart and hands to different aspects of geometry.
Looking back I seem to be interested both in left- and right brain activities, not being able to find satisfaction using just one of these. One thing I like about sacred geometry is that this discipline spans both.
Contents of the session
After an introduction in sacred geometry, we'll look in depth at a very beautiful pattern: the labyrinth. We'll do an experiential exercise to get a feel of how an abstract symbol can be meaningful and relevant for ourselves and our lives.
Then we'll look at another very important subject: the golden proportion. After becoming somewhat familiar with this proportion and the figures that arise from it, we'll look at technology inspired by it, and how this is different from other kinds of technology.
Websites
For those of you who want to explore some of this online you can start with my own site: www.sacredgeometry.nl (most of which is at the moment only in Dutch.) There's a section 'links' that provides you with links to other websites as well.
A lot of information can be found by googling around, although in many cases the authors seem to forget about the rational, exact side of sacred geometry. The info can then be beautiful, insightful, metaphysical, etc., but on the mathematical side of it simply incorrect. So explorer in this domain: be on your guard and use both sides of your brain.
Looking forward to meeting you in session 4 of Inti!
